A national housing shortage
Home ownership has been an aspiration of the British population for decades. The desire to own one's home and invest in the property market is as popular now as it ever was, but for many, the dream of owning a home is simply that, a dream. Instead, the reality is that it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to purchase a place they can call home.
Standish needs new homes
This situation is common to most towns and cities in the UK, with Wigan Standish as no exception. Perhaps you, or someone you know, is struggling to get on the housing ladder or are unable to find a property in the area that suits your needs. If so, you're not alone.
To address this problem and to accord to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), local authorities have to be able to demonstrate that they have a 5-year supply of housing land to meet the needs of existing and future generations.
As such, several sites across the Borough have been identified to meet the Borough’s needs, including Standish as a broad location for new housing, with approximately 1,000 new homes needed by 2026. In particular, the Pepper Lane site is ideally located to meet the future development needs in Standish and benefits from existing planning consent for new homes.
